The snow is almost gone, the birds are chirping and houses across Michigan are opening their windows to let the outside in. Home owners should take note; now is the time to start the to-do list to prepare for the warmer weather.
Here are 5 things you can do to improve your homes overall curb appeal and get a jump start on the relaxing summer months right around the corner.
#1: Power Wash
Are we the only ones that think of Tim Allen from Home Improvement when the words “power” and “wash” are put together? Anyway, right now is a great time to power wash any patio or decking to get that nice new crisp look. Be sure to note of any boards or screws that might need to be replaced too.
#2: Scrape and Paint
If you have windows that still are made of wood, now is the time to get the scraper and sand paper out to prepare for a fresh coat (or two) of paint. Some things to remember: put down a drop cloth to catch all remnants of paint and watch the “Karate Kid” to learn the proper painting technique. Mr. Miyagi is still chuck full of good knowledge.
#3: Check your seals
If you use a garden hose it is a good idea to check the outdoor faucet seals before you start to use them. The winter months can be harsh and can crack the rubberized connections. If you don’t want to look like a person who just dropped a Mentos® into a Diet Coke® bottle when you turn your knobs on this spring, just take a few minutes to make sure everything is in order.
#4: Fertilize your plants and lawn
This is peak season to make sure your lawn gets the nutrition it needs to look fantastic during the summer months. Put down some fertilizer now and then again near the end of April.
#5: Clean your grill
Make sure to take the time to clean your grill thoroughly before constant use in the summer months. Chances are if you haven’t used it since last fall you could have some unwelcome guest who made themselves at home. Don’t get us wrong, we like some exotic food too once in a while, but we need to prepare ourselves before hand.
